my latency test this weekend from singapore was:

JP server: everything fine, dodge, comboing and such.
NA server: everything seems slower, in the sense u have to react way faster than in jp server if want dodge. I manage dodge doblyn and slug and other mobs aoe attacks, but a bunch of time running out of circle, 2-3 later it still hit me :x. this didn't happen in jp server. Combo sometime i hit at behind the target already, but it register as side or front. jp server didn't had the issue. i level 2 chars side by side up to 7 to test. 1 at jp 1 at NA before continuing all the way on jp.

In ifrit, at alst 3 minutes before server shutdown, went in and beat it. the attacks and special are 2-3x faster than the doblyn test. So my worry is NA latency for such battle may affect south east asia.

Next test i will get NA char into ifrit and see, if they return the 1.0 toons. i will test in balmung and aegis ifrit and compare. :). Other wise, most likely be heading to masamune if NA server latency real bad

Interesting tests Kairi..

All of my buddies from NA (West, East Coasts + a guy from the UK) all reported the same ol' latency from 1.0 with only a slight improvement for the east coasters. (Pings were between 40-130 to Montreal).

This included getting hit by plumes & cracks in the Ifrit fight despite being clearly out of the animations.

I had similar latency issues from here, perhaps a little more then they did but it certainly wasn't hugely different.

I truly believe that a lot of the issues come from poor optimization, as the issues were still pretty evident even in the lower pings.

On a side note though, none of the latency I experienced was game breaking or annoyed me very much. I still got out of the way of the majority of most abilities if I was fast to react.

Either way I ping pretty damn similar to JP servers anyway so mehhh.

well, if the tests wwe do next week still proofs like that. I think masamune be a nice place gather all english speaking oceanic and NA communities that want amkee an international community in it. It's nice see people online all time of the day rather than just 1 point of the day. Well next weekend. Ifrit tests on NA :P. will compare my results of both and see. I using fibre plan and a very good pc with ssd hard disk running ffxiv, so will test out how latency is for southeast asia peeps, as those nearer up to jp and na wont see a difference.

I didn't get the chance to test ifrit, but I was playin on an NA server (Ultros). I'm able to avoid goblin bombs and any other other form of AoE, however it's not foolproof, sometimes i still get hit despite being out of range.

So when next test comes I will be able to use my 1.0 character to test out ifrit (hard) hopefully and get a better idea of how the latency affects gameplay.

That said, I'm looking forward to transferring to Masamune if most of Oceania are there.

Yeah most of the legacy players are on Masamune while new players or players wanting a new server are on Tonberry for the JP side of things.

I'm not sure if this is of much concern to the rest of you, but I thought I'd point out that it's been confirmed the content finder will not matchmake across data centres.

That is good news, though I'd still prefer for it to be server specific at least initially until the population is more spread. I'm not sure why these games start off with cross-server lfg stuff when there are always enough players early on for each server.
