Anyone good with their JP language? There's a thread posted in beta forums regarding foreigners in tonberry. Using google translate, it seems the first poster is upset at being unable to communicate during PT? And lots of things about mackerel, lol?
What are their general feelings towards us sharing a server with them?
liutena, though I can't help directly, I'll try getting Reinheart, a member of the FFXIV:ARR community who helps translating Japanese posts for English speakers, to do it. I'm curious too since I'm playing on Tonberry and want to get along with Japanese players.
Eh, fare enough. My bad. I'm guessing Google translate and chrome's auto-translate feature have the same base because they're both Google products, but they could also be different. Now I'm curious. :3
Further down the thread it looks like they are discussion options to use the server transfers to move to another server. They are also complaining about Masamune too.
Pretty much it sounds like there isn't anything to be worried about. The OP was commenting about there seeming to be a lot of English players on Tonberry and wondering if it was like that on other Japanese servers. Other players commented they wanted Japan data centers for Japanese only but they were quickly rebuffed by other Japanese offering ways to try and communicate with us instead.
Basically OP says that he didn't expect to see so much English shout on a JP server. When he had a duty party with 2 english speaking players, he used auto-tl but then they just used English after a while and he felt left out because he can't speak english. He asked that if other players had the same experience.
Then ppl explained to him that the server label isn't language based, Tonberry Masamune etc. have many english speaking Asian players (AUS NZ SG HK etc.) because it's much closer than the NA data center.
Some people also said that there was so much English on shout and stuff (jsyk the JP always use "excuse me for shouting…")
All in all, ppl say that there are always discrimination on both sides, but they're happy that there are a mix of ppl from other countries and most foreign players are friendly, just use auto-tl, google translate, etc.
P.S. server = saaba => saba = mackerel. It's quicker to type I guess lol. ("v" in Japanese is "b" because their "b" is pronounced very softly it almost sounds like "v")
