At the very least you gravitate toward the lesser of two evils in cases like these.

In game there should be a "wifi" like connection symbol in the top right corner of your screen. If I remember correctly click or hover your mouse over that and it should display your ping. Let me know if it works.

For finding the ping outside of game you could try one of these methods.

You can watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQyjn44ZThQ

Or go to: http://www.ffxivguild.com/how-to-test-your-lagpinglatency/ . There is a program you can download which automatically does it for you but I'm not sure how accurate it is since it pings for EU and their isn't an EU data center. He does offer instructions on how to manually find your ping though.

People claim different ISPS for the Tokyo and Canadian data centers. The video uses an ISPS which makes a noticeable difference when I ping the Canadian data center as compared to the ISPS below. I live in central U.S. and the ping from the video ISPS ends up being 120ish and the one listed below 60ish. The video one results higher for me. I don't know enough about it to tell you which one is right and wrong. The ISPS that were posted on this site by the community are:

JP : 124.150.157.36

NA : 199.91.189.21
