While making my character on the beta i rolled on tornbery (now i only speak English) but everything that people were saying was in JP. I i could not communicate with anyone. now why are we all in such a rush to join JP servers when we cant communicate with the majority of the server. Even for lower pings?

Truthfully those are my thoughts exactly, and some people have still decided to play on NA servers despite the heavy weight on JP servers within this community.
I for one will be playing on an NA server, and probably would even if it wasn't for my Free Company from 1.0, but can't really change someone's opinion.

Because there is and will be english speaking in Tonberry.
That's why we have this site! We put together a linkshell for all the English speaking people on the server.
There's also the auto translate feature (which I've yet to figure out) which helps get across simple communications.
Lower ping is make or break in some PvE encounters and so if progression raiding guilds want to keep up they'll have to play on the lower ping servers.

I admit I also share a concern about the lack of English speaking players on the JP servers. Personally I can deal with the extra latency if it will get me more people to play with, but most oceanics seem intent to go there so I'm willing to give it a go. Worst case scenario, I can transfer later if they add in character transfers after release or just reroll.
so i started a topic on the beta forums about the language translator the replys are that its only pre programed basic stuff like "can i have" ect. only used for very basic party communication.

Communication issues in JP servers is a valid concern. Back in FFXI, even at the time we play, when there were far more JP players than NA players, 99.9% of my interactions were still with NA players. The auto-translate simply wasn't good enough to communicate properly JP players, apart from trying to haggle on something they were selling (which was quite amusing actually).
To those of you who would prefer an NA server, PLEASE vote in the poll for an NA server to reflect your opinion. Otherwise the poll looks like the majority still prefers JP servers.
